The gilding is of a later date

It is possible that the set of four chairs were part of these gifts and they are certainly of a level of quality which would have graced any royal residence of the period

Carved Presentation Box with Silver and Semi-Precious Stones c. 1845 Hepplewhite having an inscription on theA presentation box dating c. 1845, curiously made of bog oak having a carved elephant with palanquin on a plinth (the tusks are ivorine) inset with semi precious stones and silver decoration around the sides set on silver ball and claw feet and having a single drawer. Probably presented to Lestock Robert Reid, Governor of Bombay 1846 47 based on the coat of arms on the front drawer. Ht. 12 1 2, W. 12 3 4D. 9 1 2.
